Standards
There are two international standards for GD&T. North American companies tend to use the ASME Y14.5 Standard.
European companies tend to use the ISO standard.
European companies tend to use the ISO standard.
It's important to specify on a drawing which GD&T standard is used. If a drawing were to be interpreted according to the wrong standard, misunderstandings could happen. For instance if we want to build a dog house, a misunderstanding could result in us getting a cat house instead of a dog house.
The standard is normally called out in the standard notes or in the title block.
Sometimes a company will utilize a given standard with certain exceptions. These exceptions may be called out in a document called an Addendum.
